Are you booked to have a pain procedure?

If you are already booked for a procedure go to the Procedure Information section found on the Useful Resources page. This details more specific instructions on your procedure.

What are the benefits?

Like medical treatments, interventional pain procedures can assist you in the reduction of your pain, facilitate rehabilitation and overall functional recovery. Pain procedures can have the additional advantage of reducing your need for pain medications and thereby reduce any unwanted medication side effects. They can provide greater pain relief than medications alone and are much more precise by targeting the specific site of your pain. Pain procedures do not change the underlying pathology or cause of your pain, but can help promote healing in some cases.

Are pain procedures safe?

Interventional pain procedures, when selected appropriately, are a low-risk and minimally invasive option that can have profound effects in managing your pain. Interventional pain procedures are completed by appropriately trained and qualified pain specialists who have undergone years of vigorous training. Pain procedures are typically used as an option when first line treatments have failed or where the nature of your pain condition is likely to respond to an intervention first.

Where are pain procedures conducted?

Most of the Centre’s interventional pain procedures will be carried out through the safety of one of the private hospitals or day procedure units in Perth. Pain procedures are usually completed under sedation and x-ray guidance, which means there will also be an anaesthetist and radiographer involved in your care on the day. There are a small number of procedures that can be conducted through the clinic at Anodyne. Typically, these are treatments that do not require sedation or an operation theatre, such as Botox therapies, PRP injections, occipital nerve blocks, transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy, to name a few.
